Gift of Gifts

What do I give to the Maker of all?
For it’s "all" He rightly has;
Something impassioned, real, and not small;
Something from my own hand;

  “But I don’t have My singular desire;
It’s e’er before My heart and eyes;
To have your heart, and fill it with fire;
Would gladden Me, to no surprise.”

I heard the words, and shuddered within,
For I saw my poverty;
How could I give this bank of sin?
He is far more worthy!

“Give to Me, and don’t withhold;
Feel Me yearn infinitely;
I clean what’s Mine; make new like gold,
And keep it, oh so joyfully;”

“Oh, my Lord,” my voice was shaking;
“I give to You, this heart as token;
It’s all Yours, for the taking;
But I’m afraid it’s now broken;”

  “That’s alright; that’s My favor
That breaks your unclean heart;
I’ve made a promise that will not waver;
This broken heart I now clean out;”

This thing that seemed like blackened coal
Was now in His hands;
Began to glow like precious gold,
And changed at His command;

He held it close, with joy in His eyes,
Then set it back in my breast;
This one act was a surprise;
I felt renewing rest;

Then I felt it desire to give,
To another of my kind;
“But”, I said, “for You, it lives;
I cannot give what’s not mine!”

“What you desire comes from Me,
For your heart is where I live;
Follow it now, and be free;
Your heart is Mine to give.”

Now I’m blessed, for thus I’ve given;
I am rich, for now I’m living;
This new heart, is now Christ-driven,
This gift that keeps on giving.

    Good dialogue

    Thank you for this. The Gift is "unspeakable," as the Scripture says- so it's all hard to put into words.It is probably the ONLY gift that keeps on giving.

    Pleasantly intriguing

    Nice, but try writing a short poem. Sometimes something short and sweet can have the same effect.

    EXCELLENT!!!!

    this is a wonderful well written poem. it has a great message. i like the background too! i especially like the last verse:
    Now I’m blessed, for thus I’ve given;
    I am rich, for now I’m living;
    This new heart, is now Christ-driven,
    This gift that keeps on giving.
    it just ties it all together and i love the last two lines. we all need to remember that in our lives. thank you so much for sharing your insight with us. you are a true Christian and God has blessed you with a superb gift of writing. keep writing brother! God bless you always

    I liked the conversation between you and the Lord- very personal... that's good.

    Thanks for sharing!

    I like to look at Christmas stories and other Bible stories from different angles- I think it increases our faith in new ways.

    Awesome.

      Praise the Lord...

      ...the baby Jesus didn't stay a baby. He grew up to reveal who He was, and glorified His Father with His death for our sake.

      Now He lives again...
