Kings of the Sky

Sharp eyes always
Looking forward
With such intensity.
Looking out for
Any signs of danger.

My senses prick
At any foreign movement.
Taking one last look
At my nest with my
Precious babies,
I jumped with
Wings outstretched.

Soaring blissfully
With the cool air
Ruffling my feathers,
My eyes are on one thing-
Prey.

Swooping down
With gravity by my side,
I gave one fatal
Attack to my weak opponent.
Catching it unaware
With my claws,
That often bring death.

As I fly back towards my nest,
Triumphant,
My chicks chirp with delight,
As mom has brought them food.

My eyes which are used for hunting,
Are now filled with warm wonder,
As I know that soon,
These chicks will grow into
Kings of the sky.

Great imagery! I really liked how you told it from the eagles (well, i interpreted it as an eagle) perspecitve - complete with the feeling she is having. Good job and good luck in the contest!

Nice imagery and a little alliteration. More of a story than a poem in my opinion. A good one though. "As a fly back towards my nest".... ?

    wow!

I really like the way you described the feelings of a bird. I pictured a flying dinosaur with it's sharp eyes and all.

just a few minor things though. "My eyes are on one thing. Prey." could be changed to "My eyes are on one thing- prey". "My eyes that are once used to hunt" could be "my eyes which are used for hunting:. Apart from that, it was a refreshing piece to read. I also like how the mother personifies her children as "kings of the sky" in the future". best of wishes in the contest!
