I was then struck dumb
Like the darkened bronze of a statue
Inanimate and unable to breath
To speak
And walk away from the sun
With a heart made of oak
In the shadowed glade of forgiving
Drawn up and seeking the light
To wither
And walk away from the sun
And pulling roots of hair
From the screaming head of another
Pushing down against life
To steal
And walk away from the sun
My own flesh and blood
Face scratched by cold metal shadows
In open mouth of goodbye
To forgive
And walk away from the sun
Like the darkened bronze of a statue
Inanimate and unable to breath
To speak
And walk away from the sun
With a heart made of oak
In the shadowed glade of forgiving
Drawn up and seeking the light
To wither
And walk away from the sun
And pulling roots of hair
From the screaming head of another
Pushing down against life
To steal
And walk away from the sun
My own flesh and blood
Face scratched by cold metal shadows
In open mouth of goodbye
To forgive
And walk away from the sun
Author notes
I saw a TV documentary about the father of a boy who murdered a sibling. The boy is in jail. He has forgiven his son and in doing so feels guilty himself. I guess he's been dragged into the darkness of the crime (away from the light).
But forgiveness is a good thing, right?
the sun/son pun is obvious, too obvious to 'spell' it out...
