There is a little girl
who is wearing a red dress,
in the picture do you see?
a long time ago
that was me.
My name is Melissa,
and I'm your grandaughter,
you've been the love of my life
since I was a small child.
When I was little,
you used to bake me
Angel food cake,
because that was
the easiest thing for you;
you were teased that you weren't
that great of a cook,
but I never knew;
to me you were the
greatest cook in the world.
Every time I came over
we would go out back
to the Garden,
where you showed me how to
pick tomatoes off the vine,
always giving me the juicest ones.
I think the one thing that I remember most,
is how every time you saw me
you made me feel so loved.
You had a smile for me
every time you saw me.
And when I would sleep over
at your house,
even when I was a teenager,
you would get up at 4:30 in the morning,
and wake me up,
because you were lonely.
One morning I remember so vividly,
I woke up to see you watching me sleep,
when I asked you what you were doing,
you said "I'm just watching my Angel sleep".
There isn't a day that goes by
that I don't miss the talks that we used to have,
and I would give anything just to hear
you say one more time,
"Missy, do you want some Angel food cake?"
I love you Grandma Tootsie.

Very sad and pwerfully emotional, this also is a happy tribute and trip down memory lane, even the smallest incidents have hearty meaning during and after. Well done.

Thank you.
She was a great lady. It was almost surreal, because when I started to write this, I began to remember so many things that I've forgotten about. I'm glad I wrote it, because it helps to keep her memory alive for me.
