Whispers round the Workplace

They say that you don't love me,
They say that you don't care,
They say you're a selfish man,
They say you won't be there.

They say I could do much better,
They say I'm acting like a tart,
They say I'm digging my grave fast,
And I deserve this broken heart.

They say she shouldn't have married you,
And she should detest the sight of me,
They say she's stupid for putting up with it,
"It's not how a loving marriage should be".

But I...

I say she knows you love her,
I say she makes decisions of her own,
I say she knows she'll be in your arms soon,
When we're together and she's home alone.

I say you didn't plan any of this,
You didn't want to fall for me too,
I say you don't intend to hurt anyone,
I say you'll be married until the sky isn't blue.

I say they tarnish me with their dirty brush,
I say they don't understand,
I say they throw stones too easily,
When they see you take my hand.

They should remember what's it's like to be lonely,
They should always have to wake to an empty bed,
They should love a married man,
And have the images of you and her in their head.

They should see that having love and affection,
Twice a week is better than never at all,
Why don't they see without you in my corner,
There's no one willing to catch me as I fall?

Why don't they see I'm not the names they call me?
Can't they see I know I'm second best?
But you're still the greatest thing to happen to me,
And they don't see that I'm not strong enough to give that up...

...just yet.

Author notes

Haven't posted anything for over a year, as I haven't been writing much, but I found this which was written about 11 months ago and wanted to share it, even though it was written when I was in a bit of a mess so I'm not too happy with it, espeically the rhythm. Any constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated.
