Punish Us O Lord If We Stray!

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Punish our wicked ways
Make us suffer for our evil
For each and ev'ry sinner pays!

We know you suffered on the cross
To set us free from sin
But if we continue to be evil
To Heaven don't let us in!

So come on sinners fall down and beg
Before the cross on your knees
And don't crush us utterly
Or ignore our grovelling pleas!

We want to sit on God's right hand
And enjoy eternal life
We don't want to burn in hottest Hell
And suffer agony and strife!

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Punish our evil ways
Make us suffer for our sins
For the rest of our living days!

    LOL.

It's a pretty tongue-in-cheek piece, well-mimicking the art of forum trolling. I'm not sure there's any point in critiquing it, but I suppose you could add in a few extra illustrations of fanatical behavior and religious zealotry.

I don't think any amount of begging and grovelling will save me! I'm way to far gone!
I have taken to visiting hot countries and saunas regularly in preparation for my visit to hell! At least the searing heat won't come as such a shock!

    Really?

Am I the only one who sees this as a massive satire? I suppose that I'm the sinful new-age Agnostic of the group, but here goes:
I think that the poem is meant to poke (stab?) at the self-righteous, dogmatic religion that Christianity has become. If that's the case, it's very effective.
...if not, thanks for the laugh, anyway. =)

    Very deep,dark and intense.

Your take on this prompt seems to be rather on the dark side. I am well aware that we have to atone for our sins but we have been told what we must do to set on God's right hand and at God's feet in heaven. You have the right to only look on the dark side but I choose to see the loving side of God and his wonderous Son who died for our sins. There is a lot of joy to be found in the Bible as well as the dark side composed of the devil.

    good flow

could be a song..but don't like the hell and brimstone it preaches..too much of that..Jesus preached love..and against the self-righteousness of the time..which apparently we have today too..

ehhhhh-xcellent - you know there may be something in this - a re-write of that particular pop-song to warn all sinners - in my experience the young-uns these days pay more attention to their pop music than anyone's sermons!!!

I'm on my knees and suffering already - what else would you have me do? (this makes a rather nice song, put to the tune of "Oh God Our Help In Ages Past.."
