Born too late to be a flower child,
I always found myself high
on life;
on love
waiting for smiles to erupt
on strange faces
to bring light to my day,
and then I found poetry.
Stumbling through abandoned words,
I picked up the pieces of rhyme,
carried them with me through life
and the knapsack started to weigh me down,
so, I flipped through the pages
that I hoarded like a hidden treasure,
clipped your words to petals in my hair,
and the rest turned to memories
that I cherish
in secret places of my heart
and late at night, if I should cry,
your words feed my sorrow
with whispers of wonder
like a lullaby
wooing me to sleep.

I was drawn by your lovely title - expecting something "eighteenth century"...the first line lead me to expect "neo-psycodelia", but I was wrong on both counts. This is a tender but thouroughly modern verse. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
-
a very beautiful way of looking at poetry. for poets, it becomes a necessity in order to write and live. thank you.

Wuah! Such a light and soothing poem... It's extremely rarely that I find a poem as relaxing as this one and it makes me wonder how words can affect one this strongly... Finding poetry, now that's a topic that all poets should think about these days. I'm very glad that you found poetry because otherwise we would be missing a talent here!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful work here!

Poetry IS like food, isn’t it? Good work.

This is just such a lovely interpretation of thought; and a sort of beautiful adoration for the light that you find in those around you. The outlook on life of being graceful and compassionate... you carry it so close to your heart. You are such a beautiful soul - and I for one that God that I found you. I love your pen, it always seems to find the purest path to my heart.

This is truly a beautiful poem, the expression of words held within it are rich with thoughts and imagery,
"and the knapsack started to weigh me down,
so, I flipped through the pages
that I hoarded like a hidden treasure,"
A little bit of us all held within this one.
I was also to young to be a flower child,
but have cherished the felt hat with a flower on it my
Dad bought me, thank you for that memory through your poetry,
Thanks for blessing me once again with thoughts of your mind and pen.
Love and Peace

"and late at night, if I should cry,
your words feed my sorrow
with whispers of wonder
like a lullaby
wooing me to sleep."
I was too young to be a flower child, too. I was only 14 in 1973...& the 60's didn't arrive in my hometown in Kansas until the 70's.
This is beyond lovely, Sweetie...& ohhh, how well I understand these incredible words. Thank you for Being, my Friend. Good luck in Carol's contest...Wish I had time to enter one, too.
As you know, poems written about Poets & poetry are my absolute favorites.

There is a tremendous amount of joy in the way poetry touches us, the way it walks through our feelings and then the next time we pick it up it can do it again. You capture much of this effect with your poem.
I love how you show that phrases from a poem can live stronger than the whole poem, The image of you draped in words is delightful.
All said, a wonderful and delightful piece here.
Love, Tom B.
