A Wintry Cocoon (Haiku)

a wintry cocoon:
bundled up in natal dens
red fox tends her young

Author notes

Red foxes are some of the few wild animals that have little trouble surviving the winter months.

Wow! This is an old haiku.

Thank you. This was shortly after I started writing haiku. I didn't know much at all about haiku at the time, but this one worked out nicely, I think. My first wildlife poem on here is about a red fox.

Thank you for entering my ku contest. This is a well written haiku that paints a very nice picture of a vixen with her pups.

    thanks for the wonderful write

I haven't seen 'my' red fox this year. Last year it was quite a regular at the cat food bowls. Cats didn't care.

    Beautiful verse.

The contrasts here in color and temperature are wonderful to behold. As the young only know their mother's maternal warmth and winter white craves
the red flame burrowed deep. Blue

The red fox against the pale winter, what a beautiful contrast (reflected in your choice of background colours and text I see! Marvellous ^^)

I love the idea of the dens being a cocoon, shielded away from life. Bundled is the perfect word as they cuddle up into the smallest ball possible.

    Excellent!

    Take care x
