Why are we Why?

Time goes by, where does it go?
You say goodbye to all you know.
Fewer days ahead than are behind,
accumulated knowledge in your mind.
As your organs stop, your life will cease,
do all you can do to be at peace.
No chance to roll back time to change what’s been,
you’ll have to die with what you’ve done and seen.

Life’s so short, why can’t we be,
less shitty to all we see.
Money gone we’d knock out selfish greed,
A working code to feed our every need.
Everyone will work for everyone,
free everything for work you’ve done.
Everyone would work cause they would be,
Where they want to work and problem free.

Why are we here? Why do we try?
Why do we hurt? Why do we lie?
Why do we live? Why do we die?
Why do we kill? Oh why are we why?
Why do we run? Why do we hide?
Why do we smile when crying inside?
Why do we live? How can we guide?
Why genocide? Oh why are we why?

    To me this is poetry,

    it is a deep awareness

    it goes beyond superficial writes

true poetry carries the thoughts and the Spirit of the writer

it is unique and it could be felt by the reader

I could read a million poems and so few have THIS (YOURS) quality

    a universal shout out

    God knows we need one!

quite a pleasure and priviledge to read my friend...

    God bless you...

Indeed this song says much and I think you did well in writing it. I much enjoyed the video. It shows creativity and I think you are ready for MTV if they ever actually still show videos and not reality shows anymore LOL I like this.

another great piece, listening to this makes me realise that some of my rhyming stuff could make really amazing music, that it doesn't have to follow the chorus, verse type thing to be a song

Well worth listening to again my friend, as always, more questions than answers, poignant how we do, indeed, smile when we are crying inside. Misery doesn't make majestic company so we, as in the words of The Beautiful South " keep it all in" yet it still revolves within the revolutions of the mind.

    Very effective video

    Kudos.

    Very well written.

You ask some very real questions here. I have only found the answers in one place...the book written by the Creator...the Bible. It explains the source and why behind all the evil in this world.

I found the video to be a very interesting match to the song. Well done!

    Outstanding!

    This is the proverbial question that the caring and conscious among us ask; from the moment we can think and speak to our last dying breath;

"Why are we here? Why do we try?"

I remember when I first asked myself that question as a kid. I thought of ending it all then and there; but I found a reason and hope for living. I always do so far.

    What you say as a social commentary reflects the depth of your thinking;

"Money gone we’d knock out selfish greed,
A working code to feed our every need."

Yes, it is the greed and love for money that is the root of most of humanity's problems. We need to get back to the basics. You're right, a barter system such as you describe is much more human. Thank you for sharing.

This is very refreshing and packs a powerful punch! I love the atmospheric, spooky music at the end. It causes the listener to look inside themselves. Hey weird, very weird, the spooky music at the end's the Verve that I forgot to turn off but it melded with it brilliantly! Hehehehh

I was also thinking it reminded me of some of the original British punk.

It has very powerful message. You may have gathered that I like it! I'll check you out in myspace.

    Peace Georgia

Enjoyable rhythm and the ambitious guitar work reminded me of some later punk rock. As a semi-retired musician myself (lead guitarist for 20 years), I can appreciate the subleties within. This was really good, though not as hardcore as the stuff I play. This doesn't mean I don't applaud you and your mates. The formula of {Intro, chorus, stanza, chorus, break/time change, Outro, chorus} as well as having a unique feel to it and is "catchy ... these are the simple ingredients for success (usually). I will definitely check out more of your stuff!!

    until exhale,
    Grimoire

I'll be honest, when we perform this live it sounds very different (more punk/grunge).
We tend to be quite eclectic in style, ranging from heavy/punk/rock/accoustic/orchestral. We even have a warriors song that's thats all built vocals & sang in klingon. Lol!

The lyrics have a simple complexity, the questioning format encourages the reader/listener to ponder those questions. Was not too keen on the inclusion of the word "sh*tty" but that is not a criticism, just a perspective. I listened to this twice, once to focus fully on the words and then again to pay full atention to the visual and both were satisfying, professional and well presented. The piece has a 60's feel to it,with a societal set up and stratas that thread through our formations being just as pertinent today as they were then. Perhaps overall the song says we have liberty to enjoy our liberty or to take a liberty and questions which it will be on our own journey of personal resposibility whilst we are all of us also part and parcel of a collective. The visual presentation with the ghostly effects was effective and had impact,I liked that the soldier was,to all intents and purposes, faceless, it was disarming and added to the threads re thinking of our own ghosts that haunt us and those that remain faceless that face us all.Excellent.

I'm even kind of down with the communist slant. Not so much for where it is, but where it's going. Overalll a very enjoyable piece. I want to everything about the production. Did you use musicians? Is it someone elses work? It's very early Pink Floyd, but is removed from them as well. Anyhow. Rockin piece. Really put together well.

We recorded this song at my mate's studio on an apple mac as part of an album I wrote for a local charity. We performed the vocals & instruments ourselves & had a lot of fun doing it. This was picked up by a local record label and released about 2 years ago.
We recorded the video with 2 postgraduates (animation & media studies) who then put together the finished production.

      Hi there,
Thank you for your kind words, it is very much appreciated...
We made the video for it ourselves, 'Twas a bit of fun. I played the ghost/robot soldier with my nephew running from me. Originally it was gonna be a ghost clown, but we figured a soldier would have more impact.
      Glad you liked it...
