Matthew

He made an astute selection in coming here to Earth
When he carefully selected you to host his birth
Chosen for the things that you would teach
And not for the places no human mom can reach

Call him Matthew still for he does know
How sweet the love for him you showed

Once here he began his life as planned
From a beautiful baby who learned to stand
From a little boy with beautiful piercing eyes
To an adolescent with frequent sighs

Call him Matthew with your heart
That's the place he doesn't depart

The road was straight when you thought it would bend
There were a couple of smiles on which you could depend                                                      There were lots of questions and a few  heartaches
And still there is no experience you want in his place

Call him Matthew because of that perfect face
Because he's returned to the perfect place

It's not possible to know most things now
To answer our questions on why and how
Children birthed but not meant to be owned
Are exquisite beings given on loan

Call him Matthew like the name of a gem
And think of all that shines brightly as him

    Beautiful Write

Oh this is such a lovely poem! The rhyming I loved and the flow of the whole poem to completion. The title just being Matthew is perfect! Then the first line He made an astute selection in coming here to earth. Then the last line And think of all that shines brightly as him. Yes so humbling the reality of your precious child is just a loan!! What a perfect loan though. I loved him so. Thank you for entering and good luck in the contest. Beautiful write of poetry.
