Ode To A Friend

There's no one like you
on the face of this earth,
It seems I have known you
since the my day of birth.
You've been there for me
through thick and thin,
You opened your heart
and let me come in.
I'm so glad God gave me
a friend like you,
For life without you
would be oh, so blue.
I want you to know
what you mean to me,
Which is why I wrote
this poem you see.
I'll be there for you
when times get tough,
For I know life can be
awful and rough.
So no matter what obstacles
we may have to climb,
Just know that I'll love you
til the end of time.

Author notes

Dedicated to a friend of mine in NY, Colette, who is now deceased due to cancer.

This is beautifully written from the heart. I love this one! It is so simply written and has a liquid flow; rolling off the tip of the tongue easily. Thanks for entering. Keep the ink flowing and good luck!

what a beeeautiful dedication. The words are so simple yet true friendship is there. This reminded me of my best friends and how much they mean to me and vice versea.

"You opened your heart and let me come in. I'm so glad God gave me a friend like you". these wrods were so sweet and it is fate we meet people whom we can call our own, just like family. best of wishes in the contest!

I hope this to whom you've written this is able to read it, for he/she can't help but be touched by it. Sometimes people are completely unaware of the impact they have on the lives of others. Technically, the only thing I'd mention is that I find slang abbreviations like "cuz" mildly irritating, but that's just me. Sometimes, depending on the style used to write the piece, it can fit. Your phrasing is effective in getting your message across with minimum distraction, and I like poetry with discernable meter. Never stop writing!
