~ Wherever you are is the entry point- Kabir
Give me this moment, the poet writes,
while the doves come flying in on mourning songs
and pumpkin pies bake in the scented kitchen
as cats snore on the desk
dog at her feet;
husband bringing in the news of the world:
satellite tracking systems, Darfur, a comedian turned racist,
in a far city her son dreams of his future;
her own strained shoulder throbs,
give me this moment, right here,
where else is there to be? the poet ponders,
friends scattered like leaves in the woods,
falling out of her grasp,
a melancholy rises like pies, rich with spice,
a thanks full of giving happiness,
and also loneliness,
a woman knows these things in her body,
the enduring ache of life’s digs, and
cinnamon ginger and clove.

one year ago
one cat and one dog passed on since,
I post this in the honor of them
Rilke---is this what the earth wants
to rise invisibly within us? we the most fleeting of all...

You write with emotion and knowingness.
The words of the poem linger in my mind.
Thank you,

This is such a lovely, tender, poignant, profound, eloquent penning...& ohhh, what an elegant tribute to those critters we love so well. Beautifully, soulfully penned, Poet. Yes, I've paced these halls, too.

My first impression remains as stunned delight -- delight at stunning color, shape, and form; at scent and sound; at sharing sentiment...

we've lost a few very dear pets this year as well. the best dog ever being top of the list, and we lost our parrot very recently, that's just a couple in the list (and no i swear we'er not doing it to them, lol)
I love the way you posted it in honour of them
very touching
but i'm not allowed to cry at work!

this is so beautifully rich in nostalgia-
in the moments universal (pie, dog at your feet, kramer)
and moments more personal- son away from home, shoulder ache-
and we all age
and change- and lose
and love
and it all grows together into our memory- lovely, lovely penning..
so glad to find this here today.. i needed this
