Betwixt

The swell of tides, thus came upon her dress
Captured her heart, as darkness wept, for love.
The long an darker blight, of her, a dove.
"So Pip," she said, "you came to heart, confess."
The blade of steel, so cuts the deep of bone
An severs hearts an souls, devours the shame.
The fire so licked the flesh of time's leg lame,
And ushered cold, a lonely hearts cyclone.

The page so lifts a spirit now, foreseen
As grim the doctor's wrathful ways, obscure
Grimshawe and great expectations, between
Two great writers, of stinging dark allure.
Hawthorne and Dickens brings so forth, the fire.
Exposing societies wroth, dim sire...

Author notes

Prompt- a bit of both...
As I have seen Great Expectations by Dickens, and am Reading Dr. Grimshawe's Secret by Hawthorne, I am noting simularities of their subjectmatters...
The photo reminds me of Ms. Haveasham, and the quote rings of Grim Dr. Grim...

Thank you for the fresh entry. Great Expectations was always one of those beautiful stories I could never really get into... even when they made it into a movie I still found myself bored! But this really bring Dickens and Hawthorne to their knees. You have captured the essence that is mystery, that is romance with this and I just adored it! Thank you again for entering and good luck.

I liked this a great deal, especially the allusions to classic literature...(Ah Dickens! I have only just re-discovered him!) bravo... bravo... bravo...
