coldest night

Tossed like a leaf released from a branch into the cruel fall breeze
Dancing as you lose all control
Nature's ballet
Taking your final bow at the place where your life began
Silently resting and looking up
See how far you had to fall?
And then the sun fades from the blue grey November sky
The lonely darkness covers you like a blanket
You look up to the heavens
And wonder
Why are the stars always the brightest on the coldest night?
