Party hat skeletal shards lying on the floor
worn obediently as conformity's crown of thorns
to the cotillions of smiles where the tear inspired dirge
eating at the spirit was first composed.
Mortality's timepiece torment dangles from stump
where once sprouted life's tree that rose to castles.
Sawed in two by emptiness's termites,
when it fell, the sound killed the candle inside.
Alone on a deserted isle of lumbering idle in the middle of a crowd
quiet is a morgue where solitude's sorrow suffocates the sunrise.

My until I saw the picture, it was hard to visualize the scene, then even more the gaunt picture ot the tree and the pale girl sitting morose..I can think of the days that were. How strange a picture..It makes one think of the girl wishing those days were back....A beautiful verse throughout, and a terrific challenge for a prompt. I am sure you must have won....it is so excellent your verse! Excellent!
