If We Gather Them - Gold

Missing image
Air stirs with kiting reasons to believe patterns
of leafy comings and goings and betrayals,
wry as wrinkled metaphors long used and abused
as bright scriptures of god’s hand at work to compensate
for his next cruel jest of love’s seasonings and slips
of something made beautiful by loss best left let lie
as useful for later growth. If we hold on.  If we gather them.

Each leaf that falls holds a name, an image, spiraling
in dance of love I have known and have mourned in leaving.

I am wont to spread my arms to gather them to me
to breathe in crisp remembrances that some things shelter
and warm us even when they can no longer hold back.

    This is brilliant
It touches my heart and I could not choose favorite lines because I was hooked from line 1...This poem expresses the concept of the prompt so very well. Dylan Thomas would smile upon this.
    Bravo!

We never forget Love, it won't let us...
    nor do we wish to!
    Sighhh...
