Bar Stories

Four aging men
Sat in a bar
Swapping stories of their journeys
Wide and far

The booze kept coming
And the stories got better
"You know" said one,
"I once fought a bear for shelter"

"That's nothing mate
For you see
I've caught a fish
Even bigger than me!"

It had big sharp teeth
And beady little eyes
Jump straight into my hands
Like I had wone it as a prize"

"Sure you did, Jimmy Boy
Bet you met the Humpty Dumpty as well?"
"Why yes I did you nosey git
It was me who laughed when he fell"

"Fine just tell us about this prize catch
Before we get sidetracked as well.
Was it boney with sickly green skin?
Did it have a hard outer shell?"

"Why yes, yes it did
It was a monster of a beast
Yet once I had carved it up
It made such a feast!"

"But how did you reel it in?
With a net or a line?"
"I caught it with my bare hands
In the bright sunshine"

"Ok now sonny Jim
You've gone too far
Give me your keys
You cannot drive your car"

"But I'm John not Jim.
Jim has gone missing
Ever since I told him about my catch
He's been gone Fishin"

    Ha!

Perfect! I really liked this poem The humorous imagery, and taunting was I thought the best that I have heard! I felt like I was right there with them... Amazingly real! " Wone"! Should be " won! " So a not to distract the next reader! Great job!

Hilarious...But do you know how true a situation like this can be....old men do sit around and tell stories like this in the bar...I've seen it and you brought up alot of fond memories of a town where this was a nightly ritual..Thank you soo much...I really enjoyed it...hope to read more by you...Once more thank you

I think you're smart enough, at least here you've captured a wonderful part of fishing - the stories that get better as the booze keeps coming, and the way friendship will not stand in the way of catching a big fish. Well done, and thank you for sharing this in the contest.
