Night's Insanity

Plummeting into this dark abyss
the night enshrouds obscure cloak
as sinister fingers feather spirit
a freefall that may never end.

All around the chanting haunts
as sullen voices sneer and shout
inside my head I start to scream
their secrets that I strain to hear.

My shrieks become a furious tornado
as the sounds around begin to laugh
fear is heightened, senses crashing
sanity about to shatter.

No fervent groping ceases fall
as suddenly the wailing freezes
in darkness suspended, silence reigns
a void surrounds, all thought depleted.

As light peers through with laughing face
reminders of this endless night
the teasing gleam hums tunes of zany
as I await in terror for night's creeping mantle.

Hmmm... This one was definitely creepy, Gaylene I knew that you'd make this worth waiting for It had a certain sort of creepiness to it that is uniquely yours, and the third stanza is my absolute favourite. I have been there as well, and there is nothing more frightening than having horrible dreams. Well done, and all the best in the contest!
