Eternity's Promise
The words spoken soft in hushed tones
with family and friends all teary eyed
"I promise to love, honor, and cherish..."
but, we parted before death could put us asunder
Now I stand broken hearted on the pier
remembering the broken dreams of a lost lover
and as the salt of my tears slowly mingles
with the raging, foamy salt of the sea
I toss the wedding band in, and walk away forlorn...
years pass by as a young man stands on the shore, praying for the powers that be
to help him find a way to buy an engagement ring for my sweet daughter
as the waves lap a long forgotten gold band up against his bared feet, and soul
Author notes
"Though lovers be lost love shall not."
