Reaching Out To You

The sky turns black with water-laden clouds
The heavens begin to cry in despair
Night engulfs us as lightning cracks across the sky
And yet we stay out just a moment longer
The rain beats against our skin in a steady rhythm
As our gazes lock, forever stuck in time
Reluctant fingers continue to hold
As desperate lips meet in a final goodbye

A car horn sounds
The cab won’t wait
A glance behind before eyes meet again
Once more lips meet
Fingers touch
Hands caress
Time is gone
For now

We whisper promises of love and hope
Knowing much time will pass until we meet again
All we have are memories of joy and laughter
The only things keeping the smiles on our faces

Slowly our hands part
And our bodies separate
As the rain pours harder
To hide our tears

We wave goodbye as the doors close on our paradise
Then you drive away, your eyes not leaving mine
I stay on the curb as you move out of sight
Then I stay a little longer
My hand still reaching out to you

Author notes

This is a poem recently written (as of last night) that best fits the topic of Bittersweet, though its more like love trying to withstand the boundaries of distance. So I chose to give a poem that was not on the exact topic, but runs along those lines in a sense.

It's also about losing my best friend who happens to be my love. Crazy isnt it?

absolutely beautiful! it was bittersweet and not too much of either. a moment in time captured very well.i could feel the rain. i especialy like how its sweet, but sad becuase while the love never stops, time has taken them apart. great job.

    Very good

Your feelings come out strong and real, imparting your poem with depth and believability. You managed to nicely capture the suffrage of young passionate love in this poem, creating the ambiance of the moment well. Life is a series of choices, as we navigate rough waters in search of love’s safe harbor within fleeting moments of time.

Actually it runs perfectly with numbers one and 2. And whe I said goodbye to him, the only difference was, it wasn't raining. Thank you for entering. it made me cry because I know how it feels. Kudos.
