The collision of heart

Missing image
From where upon these rails
did I become bound to the tie?

The branch line that took me
from the summer's schedule
and then threw me into drift,
without destination it sent
me over the shoofly that this
heart failed to hear when the
call of the train whistle cried.

I must admit that I have read this poem a dozen times now, and each time, it hits me like a train, emotions run to the heart that are like a collision each time I read it, the title is perfect, the 'summer's schedule' is so great too, we have a set routine and sometimes life ,love or whatever, can sure change everything fast, the course we thought we knew, it is never the same, sometimes it just sneaks up on us, sometimes we hear and feel the vibrations along the track and maybe we choose to ignore them, even though they are clear warnings, even though the whistle is sounding.

It almost sounds if there is regret due to being "bound to a tie", and because there is no way to go back and change anything. Hindsight is always perfect vision, isn't it? This is very poignant, just like Wanda said. And--maybe it's because it's the holiday season and a time of reflection, adopting a "move forward and don't look back" perspective is probably the best thing to do (I'm going to see if it will work for me...).

    Nice work.

I was also thinking of that old song by Jim Reeves while reading here.. "when two worlds collide"

This is a sad one... there is something so inherently sad about trains and tracks... and the spaces inbetween the stations. Your author's note reflects the sadness and disillusion of this poem too. Yeah, I've been to this station or that space inbetween stations too. I can't really answer that question... or perhaps I can. A poem that says so much.... sometimes we just want to lie down in the silver whistle of a train.

    "my heart
failed to hear when the train
    whistle called."

Beautifully poignant, Scribe. I think we hear our hearts even when we think we're not listening, my Friend. I also think most of us are exactly where we were meant to be...although I don't think we were meant to be there alone. Wanda

Drifting? To where? Why are we once bound and then set free? I do not know what to say...exceptional writing!

    Blessings~
