Mannequin Lovers

Hollow eyes of perfection watches the world with an arrogant smile,
smirking at the average faces of society, oh so vile.
She loved him for his chiseled face of obscurity.
He loved her for her explicitly flawless beauty.

Hiding behind façade masks of synthetic attraction,
they sew the battered stitches of their moral aberration.
This so-called love confined in their shallow heart of elegy,
there is no tender affection or traces of a blissful memory.

Resorting to pretense to keep up with her ideal perfection,
she masticates her self-esteem to mortal demolition.
Covering his mistakes and weakness with abundant ego,
he is blinded by the perfidy he will never know.

To be complimenting on their plastic charm of vanity,
we watch them live with the belief of our twisted fallacy.
Upon shattered mirror of deception that quivers,
the reflection for a sordid requiem of mannequin lovers.

It's sickening to know how many people actually have relationships like this, though. They keep each other around to bolster appearances and for social standing. It's not a wise way to live...you captured it perfectly.

I can see why this poem won gold.

... I haven't read poetry like this in a long time. I am actually speechless. The word choice and the rhyming was exquisite and incomparable. ... Thank you for the EXCELLENT and fresh piece. It is seriously an honor to be the hostess of the contest that inspired this piece. Thank you again and good luck.

"Hiding behind façade masks of synthetic attraction,
they sew the battered stitches of their moral aberration.
This so-called love confined in their shallow heart of elegy,
there is no tender affection or traces of a blissful memory."...bravo!keep up!looking forward to read more!
