I take down the decorations
pretty things
that keep me sane ~
filling the air with illusive design;
waking from a daydream
that wraps me like a song
played and sung
one too many times.
They're just bits of make believe
that hang inside my heart;
furnishing empty spaces
and hiding what's beneath.
The season ends
and I let go of coloured promises
and balloons that sign the room
with a reason to smile.
The water looks cool
and there are no fancy ornaments here
as I breathe under the surface
where dissolution lies.

Excellent take on the prompt! I like how you interpreted it and the way you say so much in less than a hundred words.
Thanks for sharing and keep writing.
