As I awake on my cold hard bed one final time,
chaos fills my mind,
for today I die for my crimes.
I killed for the thrill,
cared not for the blood I spilt,
the pain I caused.
Just another one of my flaws.
An eye for an eye they say,
death by hanging is the sentence they gave,
handed down from above,
by the iron fisted, heartless judge.
Who is he to say?
Does he really know best,
better then the rest?
I killed, so I must die,
does the punishment really fit the crime?
This is the chaos that fills my mind,
as I lay awake in bed one final time.
“We’re ready for you“ I hear,
anxiety turns to fear,
but one question still burns in my head,
the question some say,
is better left unsaid.
The question that reveals the flaw
in the “eye for an eye” law.
Killing me because I have killed,
leaves the ones who killed me guilty as well.
For when you state that man shall not kill man,
the stain of killing me cannot be washed from your hands.
So these few last words, I shall utter befor I die .
“The ones who condemned me to death are no better then I.”

This is very thought provoking. Great views from one...yet all will be able to relate. Eye for and eye..I guess I don't know really what I feel on the subject, till I myself have to face the matter. I think a person should rot in hell in prison for what ever they do. But then again I have not lost a love one in crime. Great words to read and think on...sad, yet reality..nicely done, thanks for sharing

Wow this is a very powerful peice you have here! I really like the ideas and concepts put forth here regarding the "eye for an eye" law and the way you ran with this. I loved how it all came together and I am glad to see that you won a gold trophy for it, you really deserved it. Great wrok really, and I can't wait to read more new works from you. Oh you nailed it with this one you truly did. The theme of the contest that is. You gave them a sense of remorse for the loss of their own life but not for the ones they killed which is more often than not the reality. Perfect! thank you for entering.
