So what was it about stubble on my face
that made her flinch and withdraw,
but it did, an evening shave
became portal to romance: no shave, no love.
After she left, I reveled in late day growth;
I'd scratch my chin, in satisfying solitude
and then one afternoon, in mid-sentence,
my friend, officemate reached out to me...
cupped palms to my face, "so ..sexy". Smiling now,
sudden, funny how I'd never noticed, her eyes....
