Life of Shards

How feeble life is,
how easily fragmented.
Just as glass shatters when hit,
so too does the antiquity of humans
shatter the faith in ourselves.

Lost trust and lost hopes…
Simple dreams mangled in the midst
Of hell and war;
along with hearts and limbs.
Life is lived in shards
of broken pasts and tormenting futures.

Yet people live happily.
They clean up their adulterated pasts
and progressively look onward
from each broken day to the next.
Each hoping the next shard
    is more pleasant than the last.
