One step, to begin a new life.
One step, to see the world from the sky.
One step, to become a better you.
One step, to put your endurance to use.
One step, to meet a new friend.
One step, to watch their life end.
One step, to taste death on the front.
One step, to wish you were done.
One step, to lose your arm.
One step, to pray you aren't harmed.
One step, to reach the summit.
One step, to realize it's worth it.

Repetition is very rhetorical
and quite suits your poem.
I love innovation at Allpoetry.
A fine poem inspired by a mountain.
Although there is a hint of rhyme in places, this is Free Verse and rhyme, as it occurs, augments, rather than detracts.
Thank you for this poem.
