I remember in third grade
The teacher told us to write down
Everything we are thankful for
*I am thankful for my family and friends*
We all did it
Just to get through the assignment
I wrote quickly
Knowing what I would write
From 2 years experience
*I am thankful for enough food and water*
But no one really thought
About what we were writing
About things we take for granted.
*I am thankful for my pets*
Everytime we eat dinner
Do we think about the people who aren't?
When we run the water
To get a drink
Do we think about the people who have to walk miles
Again and again
Just to get buckets and buckets of water
*I am thankful for my life*
Maybe this year
I will really think
About what I am thankful for
