Daddy, Daddy, I fell down
And scraped my knee
Will you come here and see?
I love when you are around.
Oh my little one, it's so nice to have you near
My precious one, bring your love here.
My little one, I'm sorry for your pain.
I hope today is filled with sunshine, not rain.
Daddy, Daddy, I had a nightmare!
Don't go to work today!
Stay home and play!
I don't want you to go there!
Oh my little one, I hope you understand
Fighting fires is what I do.
I will always cherish time with you,
But I also love the freedom of this land.
I'm sorry. I must go today.
Oh, my precious little one,
You stay and have fun.
Tomorrow, we will play.
Mommy, Mommy did Daddy go inside?
Was Daddy in the one hit by the plane?
Will Daddy come home on the train?
I'm sorry, honey, today Daddy died.
Daddy, Daddy, why did you go in there?
Why did you go to work today?
I wanted you to stay home and play.
Daddy, Daddy, I'm so scared.
I'm sorry, I had to go away.
Oh, my precious little one,
You stay on earth and have fun.
In heaven, I promise, we will play.
Oh my little one, I am sorry I am not near
My precious one, my love will always be here.
My little one, I'm sorry for your pain.
I promise, I will see you once again.

sad
sad but very nice write in tribute to 911 . . you really capture the readers feelings . . wonder about the wisdom of a child sometimes .. like "But I also love the freedom of this land" and "In heaven, I promise, we will play" . .

A very nice tribute. This has wonderful sentiments.
However, I find the random rhyming scheme causes stumbling. Perhaps you might revisit this.
Thank you for sharing.

This is truly moving.
This is just beautiful writing. You have so eloquently penned the love this selfless firefighter has for his child, as well as his devotion to his calling. Certainly, every firefighter knows, all too well, the torrential risks they face on a daily basis, yet they continue to put others before themselves. That's what will always make them heroes in my book. They proudly accept their calling, and charge on into the depths of the unknown each and every time they face another fire.
When I was in the U.S. Navy, I went to firefighting school, and went through just a fraction of the rigors that firefighters go through in their training, but I have never been in the position to have fought an actual fire, other than the controlled fires we had set in place for the purpose of training, as well as the endless number of fire drills I went through onboard my ship when I was on the fire party. In those instances, we were very safe, all things considered, but firefighters step into uncontrollable fires every day. I have the deepest respect and admiration for such selfless acts of bravery.

An excellent write..Very heartfelt..
Fire fighters are paid and also volunteer
(not as great as you might believe)
Yes they know the risks, but for then saving lives is a calling..
The world needs more men like them...smiles
Thank you so much for this beautiful entry!
Peace

hey that was a real nice poem and arent fireman volunteers
-
Firemen get well paid. They know the risks. If you don't like fires, stay out of the fire engine.
