It was around 6.00 clock, he walked through the door
started screaming whats for dinner, I really cant take no more
I set the table, he sits down to eat
my god girl its cold, he knocks me of my feet
Well you said you would be home at 5.30, its past that
thats why its cold my dear, my lip starts to get fat
As i started to get up, another blow to the head
I reach and grab the knife, stabbed him till his dead
I could not take no more, you dont understand
he beats me all the time, he was a cruel man
I was arrested in the cells For a long time
But I was abused you know, that to is a crime
So I guess Iam sorry, I should Of walked away
But that would not stop him, he would look for me each day
I didnt really have a choice, It was mine or his life
I was the lucky one, I picked up that knife.....

A true poem about true events I have read about in the newspaper
The movie "The Burning Bed" reminds me of this poem.
Well written and very dramatic, with impressive imagery... a very good poem.

Oh how often the heart has to leed to this
and then be put away for this
A heart can only endure so much pain my friend
And sadly so many women are abused
And often it is them who die.
Sad write
