Angel in Disguise

A flash in time,
A sense of absence every night.
I remember the old days,
Oh what a sight.
You would sit in your chair,
All through the day.
You knew everything to do,
And everything to say.
While we laughed about you teeth,
Falling on you tongue,
You dreamed about your death,
You knew it wouldn’t be long.
Day after day,
I saw you struggle with life.
I didn’t want to accept it,
I had to put up a fight.
I know I have to accept this.
But I wanted to tell you one more time,
Just how much I love you.
And that your heart remains in mine.
You were my shelter,
When I needed to hide from the storm,
You were the one I always looked up to.
You were my angel in a human form.
I will always remember,
That sad November day.
When a dove came down from heaven,
To take your suffering away.
I know we’ll meet again,
Though it may not be today.
But when I see you in heaven.
All I’m going to say is.
I love you so much,
You meant so much to me.
But my angel in disguise,
Is what you’ll always be.

Wow, what a beautiful dedication to your grandad! Sadly, both of mine died before I was born, but I look forward to the day I know I will meet them for the first time.

Your poem is sad, but shows so much strength...both in your grandad's actions and attitude, and in your own. Just as he was on earth, I'm sure he is your "guardian angel" in heaven as well.

Thank you for entering such a heartfelt, touching write in the contest, and good luck to you.

    Best wishes,
    ~J.
