I live in a country...

I live in a country with different people
I live in a country with churches in steeples
I live in a country both strong and feeble
And some are bestial

I live in a country where people have died
I live in a country that celebrates pride
I live in a country that lets others inside
And they stay untried

I live in a country that’s fought a few wars.
I live in a country with prostitutes and whores.
I live in a country with infected sores
And the great outdoors

I live in a country that doesn’t eat right
I live in a country that wears its pants tight
I live in a country that always sees light
I live in a country that likes to start fights
And scream all night

I live in a country convinced of conspiracy
I live in a country full of anger and bigotry
I live in a country with downloads and piracy
I live in a country with an interesting history
Which to most is a mystery

I live in a country that’s full of speeders
I live in a country that hates its leader
I live in a country that disses the speaker
I live in a country so full of the lies
That they’d even take lives

I live in a country that likes to hang nooses
I live in a country where freedom of speech loses
I live in a country that wears suits and ties
I live in a country that likes to stylize
And has beautiful blue skies

I live in a country that punches the elderly
I live in a country that votes for game and reality shows
I live in a country where people find all new lows
I live in a country that has severed toes
And Hummers with bows

I live in this country, and yes, you may ask why
How can I live in such a backwards place, you sigh
I love this dear country, with all of its flaws
With its horns and its needles and guns and its claws

I’m a white, female, American citizen
My blood runs blue, white and crimson
And though many things in this country are wrong,
I can see why America is strong.

I may not agree with their conspiracy theories,
I may not agree with their racist actions,
I may not agree with our President,
But that does not mean I will respect any of them any less.

I live in a country where often, I’m alone.
Alone in my opinions, my art and my home,
And though I’m not going to cast any stones,
I believe in my country, and so I’m alone.

I live in a country.

Author notes

Don't be too harsh this time. I'm not accustomed to poetry, if you couldn't tell, haha.
