Mighty Illusions

The banks of Lethe
melt into Oblivion.
Shades of spirits drink
from silver cups,
as the unburied walk
Cocytus' shore,
amongst the blowing
poppies, that wash
all the dreams away.

  • What do all these words mean? You're going to have to have a culture lesson with me.

I may not know what some of these things mean, but I know that they do sound good together. I especially love the 'poppies' phrase.

So few words you have penned and still this is a powerhouse. A poet who can pen such a force to be wreckoned with in short is a talent that need not be overlooked. Thank you for entering. Best of luck to you!

Great write. Mythology has endless possibilities in metaphor of the modern day. To think that myths were one religion is strange to me, it makes me wonder what today's theology will look like to people 2500 years from now?

Loved the imagery in this...the allusion was very clever and gave this much more depth than what meets the eye.

Hmmm, besides from the word oblivion, which actually didnt work too bad in this poem, I think the descriptions and phrasing here stirred some intensity in this quickie. Really captures the power in the image described.

I love the way this flows, each line seems to work so well with the previous. I found it both natural and spiritual in translation. Very beautiful, actually.
