Tales Of A ForgottenToy I-V

I. Display Case

My hands upon the glass
As the stars fall from heaven
Men and Angels alike
Scrambling for shelter
While it all came down

Will the glass protect me?
Or does it hold but false hope
Of outliving humanity?
Waiting to crash down upon me
Leaving me to drown in the ashes?

The glass has shattered
Reality has ended
Yet still I stand
A solitary monument
Who saw it all come down

II. Dreamscapes (Resolution)

As I read the pages
The words change
Bringing me closer
To a false conclusion
An imaginary resolution
As the walls close in
Threatening to devour my sanity
(Or what little is remaining)
I think of you

Fissures beneath me
Separate my soles from the ground
Rising me to false flight
Before tossing me back down
And as I land in the snow
And force myself to stand
To continue this pilgrimage
Even though every waking word
I speak of you

I numbered the birds overhead
As they circled crying for food
Until their bodies found earth
Much too weak to hold them
And they faded into the white
As I long only to do
To find peace in eternity
But when I close my eyes
I dream of you

When will this journey end?
As I walk upon broken glass
My feet leaving a trail of crimson
Every step I dare take
And once more the words have altered
Are the really written to me?
Or perhaps for the ones who left me behind
To eternity far gone?
I don't dare think of such things
For fear of the truth within them
An imaginary resolution
To only think of you

III. A Path to Follow (Broken Mirror)

A trail of crimson in the snow
Am I supposed to follow?
Have I not seen them before
Inside the broken mirror
Which hides my face?
Or is this but a trick of insanity?
False tales brought from the lost
Their ruby eyes following every moment
Waiting for a time to strike
So they may drag me into the shadows
Never again to be seen?

IV. Cynicism (World of Ice)

God is a lie
Truth is a tale
Told by the ones now gone
"This is it"
"This is it"
A world of ice
This can't be it...
This can't be it...
I was meant for so much
Not this frozen tomb
But I hear the voice repost
The truth I had always known
"This is it"
"This is it"
A world of ice

V. Display Case (Revisited)

Just on display
For the entertainment of fate
Only a singular purpose
Without a climax
As the fountain runs low
I am sure I will soon be gone
And as my hands press against the glass
I finally understand
I have always been here; always will be
And every moment of eternity
I will only think of you.

Author notes

I noticed in my last poem that separating the parts hindered the final product, so I decided to take my chances with the length. Enjoy.
