Leave out all the rest

So many mistakes
Every day I've done.
So many wrong things
In the past,I've said.
Sometimes I feel like I'm evil.

Now I realize,
That one day I might die,
And you and the others
With these memories
Will live and remember me by.
I wish you'd be able
To erase my mistakes from your mind
To remember me as good
Not as bad.

Please don't hate me
Please never think bad of me
When I'll be gone,
Because of my mistakes,
Because of all the wrong things I've done.

Please bear in mind,
That I'm human.
I'm imperfect.
I resent my mistakes.
Please believe me.
Sometimes I wish I'd be like you
A better person.
But I can't.
I always give in into temptation.

And on the day I'll die,
Remember only the good times,
The times when I was kind
And leave out all the rest,
Please don't think of all my mistakes.
I am sorry I made them.
I would turn back the time,
Just to mend them.
But it's just to late.
I'm sorry.

I know all the pain I've caused you,
Through the way I behave,
Through my actions.
Please don't be upset anymore.
Please understand
That I'm not like you,
That I'm different,
That I can't be like you.
You are different.

Author notes

The poem is inspired by the song Leave out all the rest by Linkin Park.
I dedicate this poem to mom... I mean, in general, we are getting along well (we have the same tastes in fashion, music and sports) but we also argue a lot. I wrote it for her,so yea, this one is for mom,to mom.

I feel the punctuation detracts from this piece. I like the ideas and the feelings you express, and I think you do it well for the most part, but I really don't like the punctuation you have used. It's so distracting and the poem doesn't flow properly. Apart from that I like it, and I think the last stanza is particularly strong. Thank you for entering and good luck. Hannu xx

Oh I love that song. That song has so much depth to it, and I definitely think you captured some of that in your poem. And I know exactly how you're feeling. As the other person said, it is very bittersweet!

This is so bittersweet. The intent, that people should remember you well and you're sorry about your mistakes, is sweet, but the thought that you'll die and that you've made all these mistakes is, of course, bitter. So great if slightly depressing poem.
