Water caught in mounds of slush
or running down the gutter,
feet are wet and tempers short,
who doesn't swear will mutter.
The snowflakes flying on the wind
have stuccoed all the trees,
but I can't see the beauty there,
can't feel below my knees!
or running down the gutter,
feet are wet and tempers short,
who doesn't swear will mutter.
The snowflakes flying on the wind
have stuccoed all the trees,
but I can't see the beauty there,
can't feel below my knees!
Author notes
I need new boots, the old ones leak. Here's hoping that the snow crews will get out before I do next time.

Absolutely prime! Toronto is socked in, and we in the north have bare ground. Doesn't compute!

Thank you Terry!
I'd rather have a white Christmas than a white Remembrance Day! But so it was. The new boots are great, Geoff is particularly pleased with his.

A neat little piece... But in connection with Kyiv snow... have you ever read my "Independence Square"?

Thank you Vera. That one is a rousing song, isn't it? Or I didn't read it.

Dear Margaret,
I shudder at the thought of you
caught up in snow and sleet,
with leaky boots, wet through and through
and saturated feet....
I pray that worse does not occur
lest, slipping in the slush,
you find yourself with frozen fur
from sitting in the mush....
I shall not more elucidate
my fears and deepest feeling,
in case the fate I contemplate
should end up too revealing....

I think we should have a whip round among the huguenauties to buy you a can of anti-freeze and some new waterproof boots with non-slip soles.
The above dire thoughts are inspied by the imagery of your poem. Applause, but tread with care.
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

Fear no more, I bought new boots,
that hearken to Canadian roots -
warm and dry, they suit me fine,
they're tall and black, size 39.
They seem impervious to snow,
and frost of one or two below.
Thank you for your concern and applause.

Delightful!!
Thank you for sharing your tantalizing humor I so needed it!! Wonderful write excellent work
Boy, I sure hope you do get some new boots and soon! Are you in Russia still? Yikes snow is great on Christmas cards oh, me...
Wishing you warm feet throughout the winter

They do say snow is best on Christmas cards. It's been a few years since we've seen any REAL snow here. When I lived as a child in the North East of Scotland, we were cut off for two weeks with roads blocked with ten foot drifts. Of course, at the time I thought that was exceptionally exciting. Now that I have to drive in the stuff, my views have changed somewhat. I think the kind of wet snow which stuccoes walls and trees is the most miserable kind. Give me dry powder snow any time.

Ha ha. This is how I feel about winter. Though I can see the beauty, I don't particularly like to be out in it. Snow should definently have been made to be warm...

Thank you Frodofan
I prefer warm too, or if cold, then too cold to be wet.
