Kamoamoa

Black sand warm beneath bare feet
Soft abrasion from burnt, twisted stone
Outpouring from Pele’s heart
Coconuts burst and reach skyward
Palm fronds waving aloha to the sea
Honu, Hawaiian symbols of longevity,
Prostrate themselves on ageless shores
Absorbing the remnants of primal fire
Along the rim between kai and âina

Author notes

I suppose a short primer is in order:

Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of fire, lightning, dance, volcanoes and violence.
Honu are green sea turtles. They are symbolic of a long life because they live so long.
Kai is the sea.
Âina is the land.

    Gorgeous.

This poem is so much more special because you used actual Hawaiian dialect and themes - it gives it (and you) a worldly feel.
I love the way the words seemed to be laced together in some delicate and intricate pattern, lending themselves to something larger and more important than the words themselves.
You also had some nice alliteration and assonance in certain lines, which added to the overall feeling of the entire piece being neatly tied together.
This is the kind of poem and image that makes you sit back, sigh, and spread your lips in a smile that reaches your sparkling eyes.
    Life is beautiful.

This reminds me of a postcard I keep amongst other treasures in a warm wooden box and the black sand at the bottom of a jar of seashells...

I can feel the power in this piece, which in turn gives a little bit of insight into the feelings inside. Beautifully written with fire and passion.
