Going out drinking:
There was a lot of that
When I was younger.
Perhaps my vision was slower then,
As I sat at the bar with my beer,
Half a pint, or once in a while
A brandy, and felt I was seeing clearly.
Everyone was so handsome and beautiful
And everything was so interesting,
Even the battered mugs behind the bar,
The ones that belonged to the regulars.
My wits weren't slower!
All the conversation was so witty.
Too bad I could remember only scraps
When I awoke next day.
My temper wasn't any less sweet!
I was just sharper and more assertive
And part of the witty conversation.
My legs weren't wobbly!
I was just wending my way home,
Enjoying the 2:00 a.m. scenary.
There was a carefreeness to that time.
I wasn't destroying my liver.
I ws just having fun.
Author notes
Believe me, this is a commemoration of chaos.
