Afternoon

So little traffic this time of day,
mostly the avian kind,
as sun sings a midday rhyme.

With black tipped wings, two ibises alight
to perambulate in the center of sight,
their heads moving back and forwards

Flamingo like legs and feet
cross the side streets;
they forage on the lawns
with long orange beaks.

Suddenly, one pure yellow butterfly
passes by, oh so briefly

You might never see him but for
a moment of synchronicity
with the yellow irises.

Some scattered blackbirds are perched
in a tree and comes to call a bird
whose name I haven't yet learned

Perfectly sketched in shades
of black, white and gray.

The dozen or so gobbling ducks remain
congregated beneath the feeders,
scavenging, feasting

Under these blue skies,
truly a banquet for the eyes
and soul as

Everything colorful
and greenly growing
is here now.

As for the ibis,
it seems they have decided
to stay for a while
and delight us.

Oh I just adored this piece. It really tugged heart-strings...reminds me of when I was young, wild and free. Running around barefoot outside, just nature and my imagination. My heart is gleaming right now!!!

    Loved this part...
