As I helped you get ready for your special day
The happiness I felt almost swept me away
From the moment I first held you at birth
I’ve wanted you matched with a man of worth
Your childhood wasn’t easy, more heartache in store
For you decided there must be something more
Although I hated it, I had to set you free
Like a dove with a broken wing, you finally returned to me
For years after the divorce you lived with us
Such a sweet woman, hardly ever made a fuss
During that time we done what we could
To help you be independent like good parents should.
You were taught to drive and got a car
The best times of your adult hood by far
Then came the time when you got sick
You thought it was the flu but I had another pick
I bought pregnancy tests, not one, but two
Made you take them, nothing else would do
When you came out, like a scared child
My joy couldn’t be contained, it simply ran wild
For you had been told you’d never conceive
As far as me, I simply didn’t believe
When Gage Austin was born, he helped you so
For on the straight and narrow you chose to go
It got harder when he was diagnosed
Type 1 juvenile diabetes they supposed
I watched you cry and struggle, feeling so alone
All you truly wanted was a love for your own
Finally Gods blessing you did let in
And you have been so happy since then
Now I bring my thoughts back to the day
I watched your dad give our little girl away
You glowed so bright, like the stars and moon
All the angels in heaven sung a wedding tune
I was so happy, prayers had come true
A brand new start in life for the baby and you
You almost floated down that aisle
And everyone there had a big smile
Simply beautiful from start to end
God gave you a lifelong friend
Author notes
This is about my daughter. She remarried on Oct. 20 and my husband walked her down the aisle.
