Mathias came over from Germany
Rattlesnake skin wrapped around
an old photograph from yore,
A simpler time
If you can forget about World War One
Yellow mustard gas, and an arsenal of guns
Lined up symmetrically
beneath an unyielding sun
Gather around silently now
Watch me so elegantly bow...
Ran my fingers over the cold, marble stone
Would he approve of me?
I just honestly don't know...
So far gone,
Pushing up the daisies
Make a biodegradable chain
Wrap it around my neck
Hover over me
Silently guide and protect...
Thomas is my middle name
It appears more uncommon
when whittled down to 'Thom'
It was my grandfather's name
on my mother's side of the family
Where they were (cursed) blessed
with a brood of daughters
Only my mother had two sons-
One to carry on the family name
The other to cause infamy, instead
So there's a familiar background
So very ordinary and plain,
Now you know very well
how I got my name...

I can see why this might be a write you are proud of. You are showing pride in your name, or at least that it is important to you. I like this piece, how it tells of the past and how the past lies within the present. I also like the structure, very interesting.
