Autumn brings color,
but days shorten,
and subtle changes
in lighting occur.
Longer shadows are cast,
intruding to impede growth
on a world laid barren
in tones of golden brown.
Homeostasis maintained
but no gain attained,
a time of dormancy
of thought and deed.
Lack of necessity
in shallow ground
leaves rootless,
unutilized assets.
Snow soon covers ice.
Sculptured, frozen emotions
are capable of reflecting, only.
They lay bare, too cold to feel.
Until seeking tendrils lift
light-ward, to spring forth
brilliant colors of
pink possibilities.

Maybe I'm just remembering too many of our political discussions, but this seems a lot like your thoughts on government activism today. Interesting...
