Shel Silverstein

There are many poets in this world
And a great many poems too.
But there's only one I truley miss
And I bet you wonder who.

Stories and poems and plays and things
Swam in his head like happy dreams.
In little kid heads his name still brings
Up funny lines and humourous themes.

His books are still bought
And his poems still said,
And who would've thought
that he's done something funny to my head.

Frozen kittens flying high,
Accompanied by fish eating flies,
Buying tools so they can try
To build big glasses for their eyes;
Which seem too weak
To see how high or low they land.

Thoughts like these just seem to leak
Right out of my brain and into my hand.
And I can't help but wonder
If manybe he thought things like that
Or if he had to plunder
And yank things from under his hat.

Did he ever cross a thought
Too amazing to capture
And leave it to rot
Until it called for rapture?

All this wondering was
In honor of
A man who made quite the buzz
And who many children love:
Shel Silverstein.

Whoa, I haven't added in a long while. Well I hope you guys like this. I know some lines are a bit awkward but I don't really like rhyming.

    Wonderful...!!!

A cute fun-filled poem with lots of children stuff. Lot of research has also gone into it.

First stanza third line - 'truley' should be 'truly' I guess.

Your imagination comes across as splendid and shines through the poem like a beckoning beacon. I liked the way you say -

"Thoughts like these just seem to leak
Right out of my brain and into my hand."

Cool to think like that...you have talent! With such a good poem that pays a tribute, who cares about a few awkward lines? They don't exist!
