Unhappy

Die…I want to die…right now
I want to curl within myself
Hold those shattered pieces that I felt
I will grab them with a bleeding hand
I will make you understand

That I don’t need you to make me happy
I don’t need you to shape my dreams
I don’t need you to be there for me
I don’t need you to believe in me

Midnight phantoms appear
We commit them to memory
And then pray they will disappear
But I’ll make you understand
If it takes all that I have

That I don’t need you to make me happy
I don’t need you to shape my dreams
I don’t need you to rearrange them to tell me what they mean
I don’t need you to be there for me
I don’t need you to believe in me

But most importantly, I don’t need you to make me happy

Can you see me standing here
Holding it all within my hands
These shattered pieces of myself
I’d pray you’d understand?

And now I see that I’m the fool
Let’s keep playing this charade
We’ll commit this all to memory
Then pray it goes away

I don’t need you!

To make me…Happy!
I don’t need you… to shape my dreams!
I don’t need you… to tell me anything
To tell me what I mean to you
Is what you mean to me…

Happy…

That is powerful right there. Especially because there was a flow already going. It starts depressing but it leaves it open to interpretation in the sense that at parts it sounds like one of those "more power to you!" poems but at other times it sounds like the person just accepted defeat. It's open to the reader's feelings. It's beautiful in that melancholy way.
