Of me, of you, of us

Seaward I look
Skyward I glance
Mountains I climb
Wind in my face
I thank you

Waves rolling over
Blue ever upward
Prairies stretch outward
Wind sweeps my hair
I grasp you

Thunderclouds swelling
Wild winds writhing
Water o’er pouring me
Rain in my eyes
I drink you

Booming, bellowing
Wrenching, wailing
Tingling, peltering
Rain chafes my flesh
I meet you

Prickly pine needle
Sweet scented lavender
Chirruping sparrow caws
Intoxicating
I chase you

        *********
First boy of September
Blithe lady of June
One new spring’s dear daughter
Flesh of our flesh
I greet you

Strong son of October
Our lucky 13
Your namesake’s arrival
Bone of our bones
I bear you

Enfolding darkness
Enshrouding womb
Await resurrection
Soul of my soul
I hold you

Grandfather’s new grandson
Our best Christmas gift
New girl of Good Friday
Clay in my hands
I bless you

      **************

You-ward I look
A true man I see
Unfastened, exposed
Late February,
I begird you

Uncommon comeliness
Unequaled, unmatched
Boldness, truth, faithfulness
Heralds full known
I exalt you.

Lover of earthly joys
Pleasures imbibed
Freely your naked form
O’erspreads mine
Inflames me.

Ardent troubadour
Minstrel supreme
Enchanting, alluring
Plucked from dispassion
I take thee

Renewer of lost art
Releaser of pow’r
Untrapper of treasure-
Gold cloaked and covered-
I laud you.

Deeper than what’s within
Stronger than what’s with out
Exhaustive intensity
Sift through my heart
Unveil me

Wherein you’ve saved me
Wherein you’ve carried
Burdens unbearable
Sorrows untold
I thank you.

Wherein you married me
Onward we journey forth
Chastened, contrite
Hope in my breast
I adore you.

Author notes

Dedicated to my husband, on his birthday, February 29, 2007. In case the middle stanzas are confusing...you are seeing references to the names of our children. Yes, we have 10.

No man deserves this sort of love and admiration !

No man deserves this sort of love and admiration (smile). You are an easy woman to love; revealing in these words a woman of passion, of honesty, of sensuality, of thankfulness … and full of creativity and life. The stanzas about your children pulsate with the power of your own being, and the tender humility of your ‘womanishness.’ I find this piece irresistible in so many ways … and its author, simply amazing. Love, Sultan
