we need to dream

When the moon is abroad,
the night opens its fingers
to catch the petals of its
blossoming light, share
the kisses of stars.

She hangs full faced in grace
singing dreams from the dew,
light flows from the streaming mane
palominos coursing fields in full flight,
hanging on the fireflies mating call.

Babes suckle the peace of her
creamy light, fishes flash -- rise
to catch the incautious moth drawn
to the bright, stirring lover’s dance
through shadows cast by her full arms.

Inspiration for poet, catching fantasies
to be shared with the blanketing night.
The moon moves in its heavenly arc,
coming to rest in the nest of our hearts,
never to wander far from our loving earthly arms.

    A Beautiful Moon Poem!

The first stanza is especially well crafted, personifying the night. This is an excellent opening to the poem with strong imagery that immediately draws the reader into the scene and the experience. I like your use of slant rhymes, which support the natural rhythm of the poem without overwhelming it, as slant rhymes are more subtle, but it takes a good poet to use them well. Nice work!

      Thank you

It took coming to this site and Micol to learn what slant rhymes were. I use them because of the way they make the words sing and echo each other, tie meanings into phrases where they would otherwise pass unnoticed. Micol showed me that there was a name for it. It for similar reasons I use alliteration and interior rhymes. I love a lyrical quality and a sensual feeling to my work. I think it helps it stay in a persons thoughts and memories. Now, you say "but it takes a good poet to use them well."

      I hope I came close

      Peace & Light,

Very nice, especially the alliteration and internal rhymes/half-rhymes that both hold the poem together and help us slide unbroken from word to word. And what it says is, of course, beautiful.

I really learned alot when you brought up half rhymes and slant rhymes. I never knew about them before. I guess my natural sense of lyricism picked them up along with my time spent playing with jive. I internalized alot from reading other poets and trying to copy their styles. People from Walt Whitman to Wallace Stevens along with Beat Poets while I was in high school. The French Symbolists primarily in college. Then when I was going for my Masters it was the South American Anti-poets. Metaphor, symbolism and imagery were what I was conscious of, but I think the way words move and create with sound was something I aquired as well. Thanks for stopping by, your insight and knowledge is always a gift.

This poem surely depicts our Bel. She ignites the night and blushes the sunshine of the day. A splendid work here poet. Thank you for loving Be, this entry, and we wish you the best.

Now I am somewhat abashed. This was just a vision I followed from beginning to end. Sometimes I can see clearly enough to let breathe on the page. When it lives in words my heart feels I have done enough. I would love to take credit, but as I find out, talent isn't earned, it is a gift. To honor the gift is to do the hard work to refine it. The greatest joy comes when you are able to share it with others for then the joy is multiplied. So thank you for sharing this with me.

A gentle ambience resonates in the peacefulness in your words. I'm relieved that humanity still dreams of peace, for heaven still leaves evidence of it's possibilities in nature's beauty, in a baby's innocence, in the love we are capapble of. The palaminos coursing full flight is a joyous image in my mind, too, and there is a powerful current in that energy. I would hope for waking dreams of the same quality to pursue. Beauty spoken!

      Peace & Love, Tom B.
