I sing of my Nana, with her hair of gray and white
She was a strong and bold woman ready for the fight
Physical pain, she didn't give, for she had a heart of gold
I miss her lovely soft voice from the stories she told
I sing of my Nana, with wrinkly skin but lovely to me
She was a woman of pure inner and outer beauty
Love was the gift that she always gave
I miss her, I love her, that's why I stood by her grave
I remember, the funeral, I never left her casket's side
I am a strong person because of her, I couldn't run and hide
But I so wanted to yell & scream, I wanted to shout
"Why God?! Why my Nana?! what's this all about?!"
But then I realized that she was not an angel above...
the angel she always was, my Nana, the angel of love.

This is very sad, and it brought tears to my eyes. It reminds me of my grandpa whom I miss very much too. He died when I was 9. Some of the people in our lives touch us in ways that make all the light shine forth. Grandparents are very special people. This is a beautiful tribute to your grandmother.

This is a beautiful dedication to your nana. I lost my papaw when I was nine, and even though its been 10 years I still cant get over it. Point is, I am one who believes that the ones you love are never truly gone..shes with you in spirit just like my papaw is for me.
A truly beautiful wrte.
thanks for entering. -
OMG! I'm so so sorry that you lost your grandmother when you were just 8. That's so very sad. I'm so very grateful that I still have my granny. Have you ever seen "Hoodwinked"? She's kinda like that, but not all the way. But reading this poem makes me very grateful to have her in my life and the times I share with her are so very precious. I'm sure that shes still watching over you and your son. Maybe she'll be with you as you walk your son trick or treating. After all, it's that kind of night. ;OP
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Your Nana sounds like a beautiful soul, someone to be proud of calling family. Someone so strong without complaining of their woes and sticking up for you to the end, is someone in my opinion worthy of great respect. RIP Nana :]
