mispronunciation recapitulation

**warning - contains opinions that might be highly offensive to some readers - discretion is advised**

in case anyone was here earlier
and heard the rant
and bat a lash
and felt confusion
and feigned illusion
and pushed the incorrection into the forefront
then this poem is
especially
dedicated to you

i must say
and i must
that i cannot
repeat
cannot feign understanding
of something that i consider to be one of the stupidest
misconceptions
of the english language
who taught such horrible english?
were you raised to speak like a hayseed?
and using rhyme as support for your ignorance
does little to pursuade
when one changes the pronunciation of pieces to
PCs

to say such is to say that
today and baby rhyme
as they so often do in pop music
we all know
babay
is not the way such a word is said
thus
chanteurs look the fool
when they rhyme two things
through mispronunciation

and by the way
's denotes ownership
but perhaps you never learned that in school.
so when analise owns a book
its analise's book
or is it analisees?

hence i will never say
nor ever agree
to the idiocy that is
re-c's pc's

Author notes

so i was planning on being an english major for a long time. and the only reason i switched was because i didn't get on with the english staff here at college. but i am still proud of my ability to still speak english correctly, and i believe it is my personal mantra to teach the rest of the world to speak it correctly as well.

unfortunately, some people are so insistent on their ignorance that there is no convincing. and its not that i think that people who say re-c's pc's instead of reese's pieces are bad people; i just think they sound incredibly uneducated and that they are speaking from a past where previous generations were uneducated and thus spoke poorly so it passed on. you will never convince me that it is pronounced "re-c's" so that it rhymes with "pc's". pieces is not in any other context pronounced that way.

rant completed.

ps - i'm not a jerk, but i think that people who cling to this have no gramatical backing for their opinion. they say it because that's how their friends and family said it when they were growing up. i have learned to change some of my pronunciations based on what, according to basic rules of english grammar, would be more correct. why is it so impossible for other people to realize how silly that is?

Please tell me what you think

    I get your point

tho I dont agree, I had a French-German&Italian teacher, a Japanese gentleman named Mr Tanaka who spoke over twenty langauges fluently, his English was Oxford of course, but he was such a little dweeb! He persecuted me greatly for my pronunciation of French, and my German, forget about it!! I think its all a matter of accent, and as long as I can understand someone, good enough. I hate to ask over and over, what?, because I cant understand someone, not because they are getting it wrong, but because its almost inexcusable to me to insult them by not understanding them. I remember an 'oral' test given to me on my vocabulary in which I failed miserably because of my accent, yet I could define each of the words and give synonyms and antonyms for each, as well as use them correctly in sentences, and of course spell them. The point being, grammatical rules of pronunciation are spoken of as if set in stone, and they are static, but language is dynamic, and in two hundred years they will change the rules to match the new manners of speech, just as the present rules of pronunciation were meaningless two hundred years ago when American English was taking form. Put simply, the pronunciation guide was written as representative of the particular accent in use at the time, in a particular place. Well, now Ive gone on havent I? haha! Enjoyed the read in any case, feel free to continue to disagree, I know im not the last word....

The hell you are!! You are anything but a jerk.. I know I am un educated and that is no reason for me to be ashamed.. I blame the small run down school I was taught in that did not care about the students.. Litterly I came from a class of 64 but by the time I graduated our class was under 30.. That's half my school mates that dropped out.. Why would the teachers care to teach more then they had to.. I just hope I don't make fool of myself when I meet you.. lol.. *Tackles*
