I know you don't remember me,
We have the same old grand pappy
And I'm much older than you are,
And from you. I live quite far.
But I am your long-lost kin,
I hope you claim me once again
Though we'll never be too close,
That we have roots, I proudly boast.
If it's only in my head,
Still I hope, me, you won't dread
A second cousin, twice removed,
A distance shared, a passion soothed.
For if no other likeness shows,
We both write poems, don't you know.
It's in our blood, this writer's ink,
Though sometimes some may think we stink.
We both take pride in what we write,
We share as a congenial delight
At least I showed up, to claim you still,
And no one died, and there's no will.
So just claim me, and I'll be pleased,
Just one nut, on the family tree
A Distant branch, this lowly limb,
When others ask, just say, "It's him!"
