There are those who choose
to camouflage wisdom
in egotistical soliloquies,
placing knowledge far from
humble hands that cup to receive
alms trickle fed like saline solution,
sustaining but having no body.
Wrapping simplicity in gaudy bindings,
adorning over-inflated chests
with medals of awe and seeing
only serfs wallowing at their feet.
To you I say;
fear your own pedestal,
for it is easier to fall than to climb
with broken friendships and no hands
to heal or guide your faltering feet,
for what is experience? Only this,
messages for which you are only the messenger,
to not deliver is to devalue their meaning,
take away the power of your own life,
render your time-line incomplete,
for soon, so very soon, those that held
their breath at your every word
will learn to breathe again, learn to inhale
essences of thought that you could never reach.
The stepping stone that you could, no should
have been will become obsolete,
a lichen coated reminder that there once was
a path now bypassed by a bridge.
Author notes
I suppose this is inspired more from the first quote than the second, although I have included references to the second quote in the second stanza.
This is really more of a prose write and I wanted it to come over almost like a lecture to someone .. I know it lacks poetic devices, but this is just the way the quotes "spoke" to me.

Honesty Before Nicety

Such raw, honest Emotion. What a brilliant penning, every line is but a simple, yet loreful piece of imagery. I loved your metaphors, the way you wrapped this up is excellent!

The style this is written in is very conversational and candid. I can see the quotes in this, but the stance is more from a viewpoint of what can happen if they are not heeded than the quotes themselves. Excellent point / counterpoint expression. True statements wrapped in a excellent vocabulary and deep meaning with strength of conviction. Well done and good luck in the contest.

I like the classic quality here, the mighty falling, like King Lear... most is the honesty, excessive pride is a hard lesson but life teaches it very well, this is well done, tough love poetry...excellent...PK
